Day of Action
Thank you to the school community for your support of yesterday’s Day of Action. I know many families had some difficult decisions to make and we appreciate that family commitments make it even harder for many people.
School Holidays – Term One Ends
The staff of Kensington Primary School wishes all our students and parents/carers a very happy and safe holiday. School finishes at 3.00pm on Friday 11 April and re-commences for students at 8.50am on Tuesday 29 April. Easter and ANZAC Day holidays both fall within the term break this year.
Flowers – ANZAC Day
Our 2014 ANZAC Day Commemorative Service will be conducted in the undercover assembly area on Friday 11 April commencing at 12.00 midday.
As has been the tradition at Kensington Primary School this will be a child centred service which includes readings, tributes and items from our senior students, choir and concert band.
To enable class wreaths to be made we would appreciate your support in sending a flower from your garden (or a friendly neighbour’s) with each of your children on Friday morning.
Parents are encouraged to attend this special event.
Please be reminded that Parent Interviews are scheduled for next week. Class teachers have made arrangements for a time next Wednesday afternoon or at a more convenient time. Students will be released from school to go home at 12.00 midday on Wednesday 9 April in order for staff to be released from classes to meet with parents. For those families who are unable to arrange care for their children on that afternoon the school will arrange supervision in the library until such time as they are picked up or dismissed at 3.00pm as usual. Could you please let your child(ren)’s class room teacher know if they are staying at school on Wednesday afternoon.
The school’s Grounds Committee will be holding a Busy Bee at school on Friday 11 April commencing at 3.00pm. All parents and their children are invited to an afternoon of weeding and mulching. Parents are asked to meet in the undercover area. It would be appreciated if you could bring along your own gloves, rakes, shovels and buckets. It is hoped that Busy Bees can be conducted on the last day of each term as a regular feature of the school’s calendar.
On Saturday morning (12 April) a group of parents will be in the school completing the ‘dragon’ and others will be working on the Kindergarten playground. All helpers most welcome from 8.00am onwards.
Contributions and Charges reminder
A reminder that school Contributions and Charges as well as the P&C levy can still be paid at the school’s front office. In times of tight fiscal restraint these funds become an extremely important element in funding student activities and resources.
WA Senate Election
The music room at Kensington Primary School will be used by the Electoral Commission as a polling place this Saturday 5 April. Polling places open at 8.00am and close at 6.00pm.
This year the school’s P&C will be holding a cake stall, sausage sizzle and encouraging talented students and parents to spend some time busking. Don’t forget to bring some money and support the P&C’s fundraising efforts.
As you are probably aware the P&C Drop Off Box was stolen from the school’s library resource room on Thursday evening (after the cleaners had locked up). The box contained cash, cheques, credit card details all connected to uniform orders and raffle proceeds. We are now going to install a slot in the front office desk for parents to use as a drop off point to improve our security. In the interim parents are asked to hand any P&C correspondence and payments to the ladies in the office for safe keeping. We sincerely apologise to any parents who had to replace credit cards due to this theft – the P&C is looking at a system of bank transfers to try to eliminate this risk.
During the holiday period school premises are more vulnerable than usual and can become targets to a small number of offenders. The upcoming holiday period is from Saturday 12 April to Sunday 27 April.
If you live near the school or are just passing by, I ask that you keep an eye out for us. Listen for unusual noises, look for suspicious vehicles parked at the school and notice if groups of children or teenagers are congregating around the school. Your involvement can really make a difference in preventing damage to our school. I urge you to report any suspicious activity immediately to;

The City of South Perth is conducting a bike survey which it is hoped will provide the City with important information to assist in the development of strategies to improve cycling infrastructure requirements and road safety around Kensington Primary School.
The information you provide will be collated by the Traffic Technical Officer who will then work with school staff, students and parents in implementing infrastructure changes (over the short and long term).

The raffles were a great success. Thanks to all the Kindy parents that donated gourmet items. I think we had 5 prizes in the end – even including one for a well-deserved Principal!

Find a Cure
In conjunction with and support of the Children’s Leukaemia & Cancer Research Foundation and ‘Keep The Flame Alive 2014’, Steph Sexton, a former Shenton College student working in Los Angeles, has written and produced “Find a Cure”, a music video in which Hollywood celebrities from film, T.V., dance and music performed. This video was created to be an uplifting experience for people and their loved ones, especially children, who are facing pain and suffering through some kind of illness. It is to honour their struggle and to give them hope in finding a cure. All the backdrop visuals were sent in from around the world in this celebration of hope.
