Planning for classes for 2016 is well under way, for the first time in a very long time we have experienced growth in the students staying on at KPS for Year 4. Seventy one students will move from Year 3 to Year 4 in 2016. I believe this growth is a reflection of the community’s support of the school’s program and teachers.
Draft classes will be formed over the next few weeks. Thank you to the parents who completed class placement requests or contacted me to discuss issues. Requests need to be received by December 1st 2015. We will endeavour to place children to best meet their educational needs within the structure of the school.
The Student Centred Funding model now determines our planning and staffing for 2016 with school funding, including staff salaries, determined by student enrolments and enrolment information supplied by parents.
We are basing our funding on projected enrolments. In February 2016, funding will be confirmed based on our student Census data. Even a few students less than or more than anticipated will have an effect on our funding. There is always a possibility that we may need to restructure classes in the first weeks of 2016. Please talk to your children about this possibility as it can be distressing to have to move class without warning.
Draft class lists will be posted on Friday, 29th January 2016 at 12:30pm. Class lists will not be available until that time.
With less than four weeks to go until the end of the school year, the pace in the school has lifted a notch as the organisation of end of year events are finalised. Our Year 6 Graduation ceremony will be held in the Undercover Area on Wednesday 16th December commencing at 9.15am. Special thank you to Ms Millar, Mrs Glassborow and Mrs Dewing for the hours spent in preparing for the Graduation.
This will be followed by morning tea for parents and adult relatives of our graduating students in the Senior Block. Our Year 5 & 6 students will also participate in an end of primary school social on Tuesday 15th December commencing at 6.30pm.
On Wednesday 9th December, commencing at 9.30 am, the Christmas Assembly will be held in the school’s open air Ampitheatre, unless it is a very hot and unpleasant morning, in which case it will be in the undercover area. Parents are invited to attend, please be aware that we have limited seating, so you are welcome to bring a folding chair. A ‘Thank you’ morning tea for parent volunteers will be held in the staff room after the Assembly starting at approximately 10.40 am.
Semester Two Student reports will be sent home on Tuesday, 15th December. We are unable to issue reports earlier than this. If your children will not be at school in the last week, please notify the school office staff and the reports will be posted to an address of your choice.
Thank You Morning Tea
The staff of Kensington Primary School invite parents and community who have volunteered at the school (in any capacity what-so-ever) to join with us for a Thank You Morning Tea. This will happen after the Christmas Assembly on Wednesday 9th December at around 10.40 am in the staff room.
Young children are welcome to join you, unfortunately we cannot cater for older children who may have finished school early.
In preparation for this year’s Graduation Social the Year 5 and 6 students have been participating in social dance lessons. It is great to see the level of participation of our oldest students.
Thank you to the families who have responded to this year’s school survey. Your responses will be collated and analysed over the rest of this term. Major findings will be discussed with the School Board and results published early in 2016.
You still have time to complete the survey if you haven’t already done it, it only takes about five minutes to do. Initially some families reported difficulty with accessing the survey, this has now been resolved.
Below is the link to the survey.
Extended Closing date: 11 December 2015 4.00pm.
The survey is available only by electronic mail and can’t be reproduced in a paper format
Kindy Orientation night
Thank you to the Kindergarten staff, Cate Smith, Kim White and Meredith Brown who welcomed families to the 2016 Kindergarten program with an Orientation night on 18th November, 2015.
The ladies walked the families through an average day at Kindy as well as the recent changes to the curriculum.
Current Kindy students will be visiting the Pre-primary centres on Friday, 27th November and Tuesday , 1st of December.
Our pre-primary students have been busy learning about life in the big school as they have been part of the big playground for the breaks. They will also spend some time in the Year 1 classes as part of their orientation program on Friday, 4th December 2015.
Discipline means control. Self Discipline is self-control. With Self-Discipline you can be moderate. You don’t overdo things or let yourself become too lazy. You get things done.
Feelings and thoughts come and go, you may not be able to control your thoughts and feelings, but you can control what you do with them. You don’t lose control of yourself when you are hurt or angry but decide how you are going to talk and what you are going to do.
Congratulations to the following award winners from our last assembly on 18 November

We had 2 girls’ cricket teams, 2 boys’ cricket teams, a tee ball team, volleyball team and a Newcombe ball team. It was a great day held in near perfect weather conditions. Our students played with a fantastic spirit and had an enjoyable day representing our school and upholding our values.
Thanks to the teachers Ms Millar, Mrs Skinner and Mrs Glassborow for their assistance. Special thanks to parents Mel Singor (Tee Ball), Martine O’Connell (Tee Ball), Bronwyn York (Cricket), Ryan Sedgwick (Cricket) and Michael Rosich (Cricket) without their support and coaching skills we would not have been able to enter as many teams.
Congratulations to the Tee Ball for winning their competition on a count back (total runs scored) from 2 other schools.
