Kensingtonis proud to have a school chaplain, Meng Chan, at the school every Monday and Wednesday.
A school chaplain represents the churches in the area, providing a positive Christian presence in the school. This is not a religious role or formal teaching role, but rather arole that respects the rights of individuals and their belief systems.
The role of the chaplain at the school is to speak individually with children who self refer to the service because of something they want to talk about whether it be issues around friendship or conflict with other students.
The chaplain role also runs programs in the classrooms such as BUZ (Build UP Zone). These programs involve working with the whole class and the class teacher, and involve a number of topic areas including:
- Making and keeping friends
- Dealing with conflict
- Building resilience.
