PUBLIC HOLIDAY
Monday, 2nd June is a public holiday, so school will not be open.
CASUAL DRESS DAY
On Wednesday, 4th June, we are having a casual dress up day to raise funds for our story dog program. Please bring a gold coin donation.
OUR AMAZING P&C have been very active with hosting a Colour Run, busy bee and Containers for Change competition. The much-anticipated Colour Run was a huge success with students from Kindy to Year 6 running laps and getting splashed with colour on the way around.
On Sunday, the P&C held a busy bee and transformed the kitchen garden area with new soil, removal of unwanted shrubs, broken garden beds and the creation of a frog-friendly pond. The early childhood area was spruced up with additional mulch, painting of the fort and a general clean-up. The Kindy sandpit received new sand, and many other jobs were completed to enhance our beautiful school.
Friday, 23rd May is P&C Day - we would like to thank our P&C for all the amazing activities and events they hold at our school. KPS is a better place with your support. The students have made a video for you, which you can view below.
The CONTAINERS FOR CHANGE COMPETITION winners are:
Congratulations to May, who was the overall winner of the competition. The P&C provided $20.00 gift vouchers for each finalist.

WA Student Assistance Payment
All Western Australian school students (Kindergarten to Year 12) currently enrolled in a public school, registered non-government school, or home-schooled, with a valid WA student number (WASN), are eligible to claim this payment.
The WA Student Assistance Payment is available to claim within the ServiceWA app. More information about setting up the app and step-by-step instructional videos are available on ServiceWA app: Support. The ServiceWA app is the fastest and most convenient way to claim the payment; however, alternative claim methods will be available for those unable to access ServiceWA. More information is available at WA Student Assistance Payment.
The school will assist parents and carers to identify a student’s WASN or provide support to submit a claim in exceptional circumstances. Please check last semester’s report for your WASN number. Parents with new students can email the school to obtain this number – kensington.ps@education.wa.edu.au
Why it’s important to read aloud to your kids – even after they can read themselves
By Robyn Cox (The Conversation)
Is reading to your kids a bedtime ritual in your home? For many of us, it will be a visceral memory of our own childhoods. Or of the time raising now grown-up children. Perhaps it involves a nightly progression through the Percy Jackson series or the next Captain Underpants book. Or maybe there’s a request to have Room on the Broom again (and again). But for some households, reading aloud is not a regular activity. A recent UK report by publisher Harper Collins found many parents are not reading to their kids. Fewer than half (41%) of 0–4-year-olds are read to frequently. More than 20% of parents surveyed agreed reading is “more a subject to learn than a fun thing to do”.

NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK
This week is Reconciliation Week. Our class has been learning about what reconciliation means. It is about saying sorry, telling the truth and showing respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We made a Reconciliation Tree. On the tree we wrote what reconciliation means to us. The tree shows that if we walk together as one, we can help the tree grow strong. The tree is a symbol of healing, friendship and hope.
Let's all work together to make a better future for everyone.

Containers for change bins
The new Containers for Change bins are now located inside the bike shed. Please ensure that only eligible containers are placed in these bins. Currently, the bins are accessible only from inside the bike shed until the outside art installation is completed later in the year.
BUSY BEE
Thank you to all the families who came out on Sunday to help with the busy bee. The team cleaned out the senior garden beds ready for planting; refilled the sandpit and mulch in the Kindy playground; painted the playhouse in the PP playground; and worked on the soccer goals. To celebrate everyone's hard work we finished up with a sausage sizzle.
Thanks to Ed for all his efforts preparing and coordinating the project.
COLOUR RUN
What a wonderful event run by our year 2 parents & Mrs Stanford. Hopefully everyone’s kids had a great time and the colour washed off quickly. The colour run is the P&C’s biggest fundraiser of the year, so a reminder to get your sponsorship forms and payment in THIS WEEK as entries close Friday 23rd May.
REMEMBER to include your child’s name on BOTH the entry form and payment (cash or direct deposit). Cash in a labelled envelope to the P&C Box in the front office; or direct deposit to the P&C Account

Raising confident, competent children (under 12 years)
Children are more likely to be confident, succeed at school and get along with others when they develop certain life skills. These life skills include being respectful and considerate, communicating well with others, thinking positively and having healthy self-esteem, being a good problem solver, and becoming independent and able to do things for themselves. This workshop will provide ideas on how to help children learn these important life skills and become confident and competent individuals.
Wednesday 4th June @ 8.00pm – 10.00pm
