Newsletter 2nd July 2025
Principal's Message
As we wrap up what has been a wonderfully busy and productive term, I’d like to take a moment to thank our dedicated staff for their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to our students. It’s been a term full of learning, growth, and community spirit—and it wouldn’t be possible without the incredible work of our entire team. We also extend our heartfelt thanks and warmest wishes to departing staff this term, Samantha Atkinson, Beth Faulds, Suzanne Wu, and Ally Ridley, for their wonderful contributions to our school community—your presence will be truly missed.
Looking ahead to Term 3, we have another exciting calendar of events in store. Families can look forward to our NAIDOC Week celebrations, a number of sporting carnivals including the Interschool Cross Country, Faction Athletics and Interschool carnivals, and the much-anticipated Year 5 Sleep Out. We’ll also be launching the Book Builders Challenge at the South Perth Library, and a reminder that Friday, 18 August, will be a pupil-free day.
It promises to be a term packed with opportunity, fun, and meaningful learning. Thank you for your continued support—wishing all our families a safe and restful break.

Speaking Champions and Speak With Confidence Awards
Over this term, all Year 6 students took part in the annual KPS Speaking Champion competition, where they had to write, rehearse and perform a speech about a topic of their choosing in front of the Year 6 cohort and teachers. A group were then selected to go through to the next round, where they presented their speech in front of Mr McNerney, Mr Griffiths and Mr Jennings. From this group, two winners were selected. Congratulations to Jessie from S4, and Jacob from S3, who delivered incredible speeches and were chosen as the winners.
Last Wednesday, Jessie and Jacob went to represent Kensington at the South Perth Speak with Confidence Awards at the South Perth Town Hall. This is an annual public-speaking competition for Year 5 and 6 students from all private and public schools in the City of South Perth. Jessie and Jacob both did an amazing job, and they should be super proud of their efforts. Jessie delivered an inspiring speech about the importance of determination, and Jacob presented a fun speech about how weird he found the United States when he lived there. Great work, Jessie and Jacob!
Well done to all the Year 6 students who took part during the term. Public speaking can be extremely difficult, stressful and vulnerable, so getting up and giving it a go was a big achievement for all.
Foyer Display - Rm 3
In Room 3, we’ve been exploring fractions, learning about halves, quarters, and eighths through fun and hands-on activities. Inspired by our love for the fish in our classroom tank, we created our very own fish tank artworks to show what we’ve learnt. Each tank features different collections, carefully divided to show how fractions work in real-life contexts. Come and dive into our display to see how we’ve combined maths and creativity!
What's Been Happening...
RECWA PILOT PROGRAM – Years 5/6
Pamela Chatfield from Reconciliation WA presented a lesson to the Year 5 students focusing on British and Aboriginal perspectives of colonial history in WA and the untold stories and Aboriginal voices. The Year 6 program focused on Aboriginal perspectives of citizenship rights and the way they were developed over WA history since colonisation. Thank you to Pamela and Dylan for coming and providing an insight into Aboriginal culture and history.
YEAR 2 KINGS PARK EXCURSION
Students in Year 2 participated in the immersive program, which provided opportunities for the students to learn about Aboriginal people, an appreciation for diversity in our community, and a sense of responsibility for caring for our natural environment.
Students joined Aboriginal presenters as they shared their knowledge of the six Noongar seasons and traditional life. Students also participated in cultural activities traditionally associated with the seasons, such as plant uses for food and medicine, hunting, language, art, dance, and traditional games. Afterwards, they played in the Natures cape.
