This Friday is the last day of Term 3. Term 4 doesn’t start for students until Tuesday 12th October. Staff will be at school on Monday 11th October for school development purposes but the office will also be open.
Environmental Citizenship
Last week the kindy classes planted donated native plants in the quadrangle (and will plant some up near the senior block ramp soon). They included many bush tucker plants and plants that are used by Aboriginal people for other purposes. We thank Mrs Wilson for working with SERCUL to obtain 60 donated seedlings. SERCUL provided these plants to our school as part of the Phosphorus Awareness Project grant it receives from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), which aims to educate the community about the environmental impacts of too many nutrients entering our waterways. A special thank you to Amy Petersen - one of our wonderful parents and landscape gardener (Garden Crush) - who donated both time (designing the beds and planting with the kindy classes) and more mature plants and soil to fill out the beds. We have now planted out all four quadrangle beds – two with natives, one as a Japanese garden and the final bed with a cottage garden theme that included our cow (Queen Banksia). Everlastings have also been planted in the latter bed and we can’t wait to see them flower.

For your information, apart from the Pre-primary and Student Council planting out the beds near the staff carpark, the Student Council will also be installing signs to provide information on the local birdlife you can see at our school. We have recently heard that Millennium Kids Green Lab program (the program our Student Council has been working with) has been selected by the World Economic Forum as part of the winning cohort of the UpLink Youth Challenge #generationrestoration. They are one of 14 organizations that have been selected from over 170 submissions globally. This opportunity will allow Millennium Kids to work with global experts to scale the program.
Other things we are working on currently, with the help of the P&C or outside agencies, include:
Containers for Change (P&C)
Designing a bigger bike shed to house more bikes as children bike to school to reduce emissions (as well as other health benefits of an active lifestyle) - P&C
Developing a recycling program
Investigating options to further add to our existing long-standing 24 solar panel energy system on the library roof
Open Night
Thank you to everyone who attended the Open Night last week. A special thanks to the sausage sizzle team (organised by Justin and the DUCKs and staffed by past students). It really added to the festive atmosphere. I know the children loved the opportunity to show their parents what they had been doing. We plan to make this an annual event.
Pyjama Day
A big thank you to the Student Council for organising this fundraiser for Telethon Kids. Thank you to everyone that participated. We raised $551.00
Planning for 2022
It's that time of year again when we start to look at how many students we will have in 2022 and to plan to staff the school to meet those needs. You may complete one form (see the link below) for your family. However, if you have differing plans for each of your children currently attending our school (excluding the Year 6s), please complete separate forms for each. Please return these forms to the school by Friday.
As you may have heard, all Western Australians aged 12 to 15 are now eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. The Department of Health has also announced it is offering allocated times for school students aged 16 years and over and school-based staff to access WA Health clinics.
More information about clinic locations can be found on the HealthyWAwebsite.
Please find attached a letter from the Chief Health Officer, providing details about the clinics, including information about consent.
If you have any questions or concerns about vaccinating your child, please visit the HealthyWA website.
Thank you for your support in keeping our students, staff and community safe.
On Tuesday last week the jumps, throws and 400m team got us off to a great start. We won 9 firsts, 17 seconds, 8 thirds and 9 fourths. As a team, we came out of the day 100 points in the lead. Thanks to Isabel, Jonty, Harry and Matilda for their assistance on the day.
After the cancelling of the interschool carnival and the rescheduling to yesterday, we had a perfect day. Our individual sprints went brilliantly, with most competitors placing in their event. The hard work we put into our training over the last two weeks was very evident in our team games. Thanks to Mr Powers, Mrs Jetta and parents Mel, Janet, Dan and Bernadette for assisting with training. Of the 35 team events, we placed in each event, winning 20 firsts, 5 seconds, 5 thirds and 5 fourths. A couple of times we made mistakes but the teams never gave up and worked hard to get back into a placing position. To cap it all off we won the Grand relay. Well done team!
Congratulations to our individual medallion winners: -
James: Year 4 Champion Boy
Ava: Year 5 Runner Up Champion Girl
Zakaria: Year 5 Champion Boy
Isla: Year 6 Champion Girl

Thanks to our team managers Milly and Ava and the staff who assisted at the carnival. Thanks to all the parents who came and supported our team.

Netball
Congratulations to four of our netball teams who played in grand finals at Leisure Life this week. Three teams were successful in winning their finals and the fourth narrowly lost in a very tense and exciting match. Well done to all players and coaches.
Running Club
Running Club is over for another term. We will recommence in Week 3 and run through until Week 8. Unfortunately, our breakfast had to be cancelled due to the postponement of the Interschool Athletics Carnival. We will have a breakfast at the end of Term 4. Keep running over the holidays.
Summer Sports
Registrations are open for many of our community summer sports. Sign up on their websites for a summer of fun. Check out information about a variety of sports on the Sport notice board.

DUCK’s DADS AND KIDS CAMP
It was such a popular (and quiet) attraction last year that the DUCKs Camp Silent DISCO is back! Don’t miss out, get your ticket now! Friday 22nd October from 4.30pm on the KPS oval
Come along and pitch a tent or swag with your kids. Show us your moves at the Silent Disco! BBQ dinner and breakfast included.
The kids always love this event, so lock it in the diary and we’ll see you there!!
$35 per family (regardless of how many children). This includes BBQ dinner and breakfast, morning coffee for dads, marshmallows and fun and games for the kids.
Should be a great night for both dads and kids!
Will be wrapped up by 8am Saturday morning, so the oval can be used for cricket and the kids can get off to weekend sport etc.
We're running the bookings through Trybooking to try and keep it nice and simple. It’s a flat rate per family - the different options on the booking site are just to give us an idea of numbers.
Although the DUCKs activities are aimed at encouraging Dads to get active in their kids' lives, we understand that there is not always a father figure available. As always DUCKs activities are also open to mums who would like to attend.
Due to Working with Children regulations for overnight events - this is an event for parents to attend with their children.
We have a wheely bin (orange lid) and a wool bale in the quadrangle where you can deposit containers, help the environment and fundraise for the school all at once. We hope, with sufficient support from everyone, to expand this program.
