Season of Kambarang
You may have noticed that the Nyoongar season of Djilba has passed and it is now Kambarang. The orchids are blooming and the Moojar, Australian Christmas tree, is exploding into colour, signalling the heat is on its way. The flowering acacias, swooping magpies and snakes (awakened from hibernation) are out and about (recent weather not withstanding).
School Review
The School Review was conducted today with a Director and a principal visiting the school to look at our self-evaluation for validation purposes. Thanks to all the staff, volunteers and parents who were involved. The results of the review will be posted on our website when we get them.
School Webpage
Speaking of the website, we will be moving over to a new platform that will link with our SZapp. This will mean that all the information is updated and shared between these two platforms.
Student Forum
A student forum will be held on Thursday (tomorrow), run by our student councillors. They will be obtaining feedback from the Year 1-6 students. Two students per class will attend to represent their class (one was nominated by their class and one person was randomly chosen). This information will inform our plans but also help the student council decide how to use their budget of $2000 (from the P&C).
DUCKS Camp out
A reminder that the DUCKs annual camp out on the school oval is on this Friday night. Mr Griffiths and Mr Powers will attend the festivities, with Mr G sleeping over too.
Busy Bee & Fete
Thank you to the parents who attended the busy bee on Sunday. It is a busy term for the P&C, with the fete fast approaching. We look forward to seeing as many of you at the 95th Anniversary fete on Saturday 6th November. Please invite your family and friends along too. There will be a dunking machine – an opportunity to dunk some of the staff! -as well as lots of rides, entertainment and stalls. It promises to be an amazing community event.
Thanks also go to the Baha'i community for the fairy garden in the ECE area. See below.
Containers for Change
Over the holidays you probably accumulated more containers. Please bring them in to the quadrangle (or give them to your children to do so). Let’s help the environment and the school at the same time.
Cleaners' Day
This Friday is Cleaners' Day. If you see our cleaners, Mr Peter Ai, Mrs Mary Yang, Mr Nitish Patavadoo and Mrs Genet Gebrehewot around, please take the time to wish them a wonderful day and thank them for their wonderful work, especially during these COVID times. They will be having a lovely breakfast at the school in recognition of their work and this special day.
World Teachers’ Day
Likewise, Australia celebrates World Teachers’ Day next Friday 29th October (the world day was during the holidays on 5th October). The theme for this year is Bright Futures. We have a special reminder of this day planned for later.

Classroom Foyer Display

ROOM 5 with Ms Hasson
Last term we were inspired to learn more about deforestation after reading a book called, ‘A World Without Trees'. After this we studied a persuasive text about deforestation. As part of our display, you can read some persuasive introductory paragraphs about why deforestation is harmful to our environment. We also created Haiku poems inspired by our love of rainforests and what we have learnt about deforestation.

DUCK’s DADS AND KIDS CAMP
It was such a popular (and quiet) attraction last year that the DUCKs Camp Silent DISCO is back!
Don’t miss out, get your ticket now!
Friday 22nd October from 4.30pm on the KPS oval
Come along and pitch a tent or swag with your kids. Show us your moves at the Silent Disco! BBQ dinner and breakfast included.
The kids always love this event, so lock it in the diary and we’ll see you there!!
$35 per family (regardless of how many children). This includes BBQ dinner and breakfast, morning coffee for dads, marshmallows and fun and games for the kids.
Should be a great night for both dads and kids!
Will be wrapped up by 8am Saturday morning, so the oval can be used for cricket and the kids can get off to weekend sport etc.
We're running the bookings through Trybooking to try and keep it nice and simple. It’s a flat rate per family - the different options on the booking site are just to give us an idea of numbers.
Although the DUCKs activities are aimed at encouraging Dads to get active in their kids' lives, we understand that there is not always a father figure available. As always DUCKs activities are also open to mums who would like to attend.
Due to Working with Children regulations for overnight events - this is an event for parents to attend with their children.
Please use the link below to book:

Hope we'll see you there!

Waterwise

Lawn care
Carefully installing and maintaining a low maintenance lawn can significantly reduce the amount of water your lawn needs – saving you both essential time and money used in upkeep every year.
Climate change has made maintaining a lawn challenging, however there are a number of things you can do to help your lawn stay healthy.
Maintaining a healthy lawn
Water in the early morning before 9am or after 6pm. Watering early allows the moisture to soak through the roots and be available all day.
Apply a soil wetting agent at least 3 times a year, particularly at the beginning of spring, beginning of summer and again in mid to late summer.
Aerate your lawn annually during the spring months. Aerating compacted lawns the soil to better absorb the smaller amount of water it requires to remain healthy.
Apply a slow release fertiliser every 2 months during the warmer months and once during winter. Apply as per the manufacturers recommendation rate, this is the maximum that should be applied.
Mow your lawn during summer every 7–21 days to a height of 10–20mm. Remember to keep the mower blades sharp.
Containers for Change
We have a wheely bin (orange lid) and a wool bale in the quadrangle where you can deposit containers, help the environment and fundraise for the school all at once. We hope, with sufficient support from everyone, to expand this program.
