Principal's Message

Thanks to our P&C for their efforts on election day with the bake stall and BBQ. It was P&C Day in WA last week. The children traced their hands and wrote five things they appreciate that the P&C does for the school. These were then set up as a display on the lawn. We plan a special surprise for the next P&C meeting.

RATs
We have been given 20 RATS per student. Last week we asked parents to collect them from the classrooms. If you haven’t collected them yet, please make every effort to do so ASAP from the office. As they are marked “Keep out of reach of children” we cannot give them to our students to take home. They must be collected by an adult. Thanks to those parents who have already collected their allocation.
Student Semester Reports
Hopefully you have seen the letter I uploaded to SZapp regarding some changes to this semester’s reports due to COVID. If you haven’t had a chance to take a look, please see a copy of the letter below.
A link to your child’s semester reports will be emailed out to you on Tuesday 28th June. Please remember to download it and save it in your computer files (or print it out) as the link is only active for 4 weeks. This might be particularly important for parents of Year 5 students who start looking at scholarships and high school enrolments for 2023. While we can send you another link later, it is an additional impost on our busy office staff.
So, please remember to save a copy of these reports to your computer as the link will disappear after a month.
Kindy 2023 applications for enrolment
If your child was born between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019, you can now submit an application for enrolment for Kindy 2023. Please drop by the office to collect an application form or, alternatively, you can email kensington.ps@education.wa.edu.au and an application form can be emailed to you. Applications close on Friday, 22 July 2022.
Pre-primary 2023 applications for enrolment
Applications for enrolment have now been sent home with all current Kensington kindy kids.
Please complete and return the application form to the office. You will need to provide two current proof of address documents – your most recent gas/water/electricity bill and a recent rates notice or lease agreement. You will also need to provide an Australian Immunisation Register History Statement showing your child’s current immunisation status (you can get a copy from your my.gov account). Any Family Court Orders or parenting plans registered with the Family Court should also be provided.
Please be aware that being enrolled for Kindergarten at Kensington PS does not guarantee your child a place in the Pre-primary program at this school unless your child lives in our local intake area.
Please contact the office on 6436 8448 if you have any queries.
Special Events Coming Up
P&C Colour Run – Friday 3rd June, 2pm
Remember to get some sponsorship for this event and to wear clothes that you don’t mind getting coloured powder on (usually white shirts are the preferred option) or ensure your child chooses the “no colour” track if you don’t want colour on your clothes.
Hero For HeartKids – Dress Up Day – 8th June
The Student Council have organised a dress up day to raise funds for HeartKids. We ask everyone to dress up as their favourite hero (not necessarily a superhero though) and bring a gold coin.

WA Day Public Holiday – Monday 6th June
A reminder that this public holiday is coming up and no one will be at school on Monday 6th June.

Walk to School Day
We also had a lovely walk to school day with the Eagles - it was a very pleasant walk with no rain. Thanks to Mrs Brook for organising the Eagles and Mrs Stanford for starting the day at Morris Mundy Reserve with the running club. Approximately 63% of students got to school under their own steam that Friday (20th May). Congratulations to Room 10 for having 91% of students walk/scoot or cycle to school that day.

Reconciliation Week
Thank you to Mrs Backhouse and Mrs Jetta for organising our smoking ceremony on Monday 23rd May as part of the lead up to Reconciliation Week. It was wonderful to see some of our parents attend this event and to have our local member (and parent), Geoff Baker, MLA too.

We also wish to acknowledge the wonderful work of Charmaine Climo and Renarta Coyne who visited the school again to share Aboriginal history through the Blanket Activity with our Year 5/6 students and parents. Thanks to all those parents who came along last Thursday evening. The feedback we’ve received was that the session was very powerful. The Year 3/4 students also participated in an activity involving learning some language and stories with our guest presenters.

Included here are a couple of reflections from students in S2 following their Blanket Activity session with Charmaine Climo and Renarta Coyne last week.
Building Works
We are on the home stretch with our roof replacement. They are working on Rooms 6 & 7 and then will move to P1 to finish the programme. You might have noticed that this morning more fencing went up near the basketball courts and amphitheatre area. This is in readiness for work to begin on extending the basketball courts and re-surfacing them. During this process the cricket nets will be relocated to the oval too. While these works will also disrupt some things, it will be great to finally have these courts resurfaced.

Come along on Tuesday or Friday morning to start your day energetically. We run on the oval from 8.00am. to 8.30am. New runners always welcome. Yesterday we had 85 runners!
It was great to see so many runners at Morris Mundy on the Walk to School day. We had fun running the hills before walking to school.

DUCKs Dads and Kids Indoor Climbing Event - Saturday 25 June 2022
We have organised a DUCKs Dads and Kids event at Rockface Climbing Centre on Saturday 25 June 2022 from 2pm until about 4.30pm. We would love to see a good turnout of dads and kids from KPS, so please lock the date in your calendar and encourage others to join. Further details can be found in the "Register Here" link below. Please contact the DUCKs if you have any questions.
DUCKs Ride and Election BBQ Wrap-Up
We have had a busy couple of weekends for the DUCKs with the a dads and kids bike ride on 14 May and the huge election BBQ the following Saturday.
The wet forecast of 14 May didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the group of DUCKs dads and kids who rode the river foreshore with the wind behind us, stopping at a couple of playgrounds near Optus Stadium and at Douglas Avenue on the way back. The weather was remarkably kind, and after working up a hunger, we polished off 50 hotdogs and had good yarn. It was quite a sight to see such a wide range of riders, from the little ones spinning their legs at 100 miles an hour, to the dads who ride regularly, all riding together and having a good time.
One of the more grandiose promises on Federal Election Day was that the DUCKs would be dishing up the best Democracy Sausage in Australia. Whilst I didn’t visit any others, I reckon we made good on the promise, going the extra mile by taking orders and delivering fresh hotdogs and rolls directly to hungry voters as they lined up for the booth. We had lots of new DUCKs helpers at the BBQ, all getting stuck in and selling 450 hotdogs and 220 Egg and Bacon Rolls by 1 pm. As well as raising funds for the P&C, the ‘Power of the BBQ’ to bring people together for a common cause, make new connections and meet new mates, cannot be underestimated! Look out for the next one and sign up to help.
