Newsletter 7th September 2022
Principal's Message
COVID Isolation Period
From Friday 9 September, the isolation period for COVID-19 positive cases will reduce from 7 days to 5 days – provided the person has no symptoms. Furthermore, mask wearing requirements will be eased on all public and passenger transport, and visitation limits will also be eased for residential aged and disability care facilities. Metropolitan State-run COVID-19 clinic opening hours have changed to 8am – 4pm, 7 days a week due to the decline in case numbers.
Please read the letter, below, from the principal for more information.
RATs
You should have received text messages and messages on SZapp to let you know that the free rapid antigen tests (RATs) package allocated for your child/children is ready for collection.
Each child receives an allocation of 20 RATs. This allocation supports the strategy to keep the school community COVID-19 safe. Use a RAT to test your child for COVID-19 if they have symptoms or are a household close contact. If your child is a close contact, they are permitted to attend school, as long as they receive a negative daily RAT result, remain asymptomatic, and wear a mask (Year 7 and above, not primary school).
We will be handing out the RATs as follows:
- Parents/carers can collect from their child’s class between 8:30am – 8:50am and 3-3:20pm each school day for the remainder of this week. After this week they will only be available through the office.
If your child has COVID-19 symptoms, they should stay home and be tested. Please continue to notify the school if your child tests positive for COVID-19 or if they are a household close contact. For more information on testing and isolation requirements, go to the HealthyWA website.
Thank you for your continued efforts in keeping our school COVID-19 safe.
NAPLAN
Parents of Year 3 and 5 students will shortly be receiving their child’s results report in the mail. This report is accompanied by a frequently asked questions document to help parents understand the report. If you have any queries, please contact the school for support.
Upcoming Events
Our Year 6 students are on camp from Wednesday 7th to Friday 9th September. We wish them well and know that they will have an amazing time – both challenging and fun.
Massed Choir rehearsals (20th September) and the concert (21st September) are in Week 10. This is a wonderful, much anticipated, event.
The last day of term is Friday 23rd September. The first day of Term 4 is Tuesday 11th October.
The basketball courts will have a new surface applied over the holidays. This will mean the school site will be very busy over this break and the courts will be unavailable.

Thank you to everyone who attended our athletics carnival last week. I especially want to thank our P&C and the parents that helped out with judging and place-getter bands as well as the cake stall and sausage sizzle lunches. As per usual, the staff, lead magnificently by Mrs Raema Stanford, did a fantastic job and the children showed great sportsmanship, respect and perseverance.
Please see the Sports News report below on the events from Mrs Stanford.
Book Week
Thank you to Mrs Rankin-Hume for organising yet another amazing book week. Please see the report below on the events, with lovely photos.

Explanation Writing - Life Cycles
Room 8 has been focusing on writing explanation pieces. Explanation writing is a non-fiction writing piece, explaining something; this includes how something works, how something grows and how something is put together. A focus for Room 8 has been explaining 'technical words' using 'cause and effect' and 'time' conjunctions and finally, using enough detail to describe each stage.

During the 3-day event, keen Kensington PS readers purchased 171 books! Thank you to the generous families who also donated books for the school library and to all the parents who volunteered to assist in the running of the book fair – your support is greatly appreciated.
Firstly, a happy Father’s Day to all the fathers and father-figures out there.
Ellis Brook Valley hike, Saturday 20 August 2022
We held a successful Dads and Kids family hike at Ellis Brook Valley, in the hills east of Gosnells. We had an estimated 60 - 70 people attend the event, with plenty of smiling faces and happy kids. There was perfect weather for it, with plenty of water flowing down the stream and at the waterfalls. After the uphill walk, the kids were frolicking about at the shallow pools above the waterfalls, building little dams with rocks, splashing about and looking for tadpoles. Parents had plenty of opportunities to enjoy the warm afternoon sunshine and conversation between dads and the mums; spending time in the outdoors with their kids and getting photographs of the scenery. Many families enjoyed a small picnic at the outcrop and pools before making the stroll downhill. There was plenty of positive feedback and quite a number of dads said they would definitely bring the kids back for another visit.
School Faction Carnival – Friday 2 September 2022
DUCKs hosted the barbecue for the School Athletics Faction Carnival as usual, helping to feed the kids and the crowd on the day. A huge thanks to the dozen dads on the day who helped with the early morning event set-up and supplying sausage sizzles to everyone. We appreciate your support.
