Principal's Message
Start of Term 3
Welcome back to school. We are half way through the year and have a wonderful Semester 2 planned.
NAPLAN
Today, students in Year 3 and Year 5 will bring home their NAPLAN reports. There have been some changes to how the results are being reported. Each parent will receive a brochure explaining how to read and interpret their child’s report. These brochures outline the new proficiency standards used to report on all test results (Exceeding, Strong, Developing and Needs Additional Support). Please bear in mind that NAPLAN tests are one test on one day. They do not cover the whole curriculum. If you have any concerns, please contact your child’s teacher who has a more comprehensive knowledge of your child’s achievements.
The Needs Additional Support proficiency level is intended to identify students who are at risk of not progressing satisfactorily at school. Students with results in other levels may also need support in particular areas. Those in the Developing level are likely to need more support than those in the Exceeding and Strong levels. Teachers can use the information in these assessments together with their own knowledge of a students to identify if support is required for students in levels other than Needs Additional Support.
Violence in Schools
Last week began with Education Minister, Dr Tony Buti, announcing a new initiative outlining how families can help to keep schools safe by preventing violence.
Our school community is a vibrant and diverse representation of society, where children learn and grow. We rely on the local community, parents and families to partner with us in their children’s learning journey and encourage open communication.
We all share a responsibility for providing a safe, supportive and productive environment, free from bullying, harassment, discrimination and violence. Parents and carers, and other visitors to our school, support safety by ensuring communication and conduct at school and school activities is respectful. We all have the right to feel safe and be safe at school.
The Department of Education has recently released Connect and Respect, a suite of resources to assist school communities in setting shared and respectful expectations to enable us to continue to work together in the best interests of our children.
This includes when and how to contact the school, what you can expect from us and the behaviours that interfere with teaching and learning. These resources and guidelines will assist us to continue to build upon our culture of connection and engagement, and we will implement them to support our staff to deliver quality education at our school.

Foyer Display - Japanese

We learn about different festivals and events and associated language and how Japan is well known for various foods, musical instruments, dances, ancient legends and cultural significance.
Students have created and participated in a variety of customs associated with some celebrations and some of these are displayed.
Japanese people often display koi or kabuto for Children’s Day and make teruteru bouzu in the rainy season. There is a saying that there is a festival everyday somewhere in Japan.
Foyer Display - Room 4

Year 2, Room 4 have started our first ever Persuasive writing unit. We read "Don't let the pigeon drive the bus" by Mo Willems then discussed the reasons we should not let the pigeon drive the bus. After that we discussed other things that the pigeon should NOT be allowed to do. We drew the cover page for our idea and wrote a persuasive paragraph giving our reasons why the pesky pigeon should not...

DUCKs family bush walk, 5 August 2023
KPS Dads and Families
You are invited to join us on a family bushwalk at Lesmurdie Falls on Saturday 5 August 2023. Come and bring your kids for a fun day outdoors with great views over the hills and city, the waterfalls and wildflowers. These bushwalks are usually a hit with the kids, so bring along your hats, waterbottles, a small backpack and some snacks to enjoy a circuit walk trail. The Upper Lesmurdie Falls area (accessible to strollers and wheelchairs) can be reached by the nearby carpark. The Lower Lesmurdie Falls carpark is a great starting point for active kids that will enjoy the walk up along the stream to the falls. We have an early group starting at 9:30 a.m. from the Lower Carpark, and a later group starting at 11:00 a.m. (after morning sport) at the main (Upper) Lesmurdie Falls Carpark.
Please register for the event:
