New Staff
We welcome two new staff members to the school. Mrs Natasha Wiese is teaching in P3 with Miss Mary Adam as Mrs Marris is on leave after having her baby. Mr Steven Huynh has taken over in the library from Mr Lubich. Mrs Van Aurich (who is not new to the school) has taken on teaching in the library on Fridays and taking classes for EALD (English as an additional language or dialect) on Mondays and Tuesdays. We welcome them all to Kensington PS.

Flagpole
Our new flagpole has been installed near the amphitheatre. We are sourcing a Torres Strait Islander flag to fly on this pole.
Planning for 2024 Survey
It's that time of year again when we start to look at how many students we will have in 2024 and to plan to staff the school to meet those needs. We have created a Microsoft Form to enable you to inform us about whether or not your child is returning in 2024 (current PP – Year 5 students only). You may complete one form (see the link below) for your family. However, if you have differing plans for each of your children currently attending our school (excluding the Year 6s), please complete separate forms for each.
Please complete your forms by Friday 6th October. The link for this survey is at https://forms.office.com/r/rhZPpSKLvT

Upcoming Events

Hero for HeartKids
Tuesday 19th September - The Student Council is running a fundraising event for Hero for HeartKids. We encourage all children to dress as their hero on this day and bring a gold coin donation to support this worthy charity.
Taiko Drumming
Supported by the P&C, the Japanese program is creating a set of Taiko drums and to launch this new aspect of our Japanese program, we have EZ Japanese Taiko Drumming with Kiyomi sensei for an incursion on Friday 8th September for our Year 2 - Year 6 students. Students will learn how to play Taiko, the importance of teamwork and taiko etiquette through this energetic hands-on workshop. The Taiko incursion enables the students to engage in a unique part of Japanese culture. Active participation is encouraged through music making and students will participate in one workshop session with their peers over the course of the day. The cost for this incursion is $6 per student.
Massed Choir Festival
This very exciting event (a highlight of my annual calendar) will be held at the Perth Concert Hall on Friday 22nd September (last day of term). We had a sneak preview of two of the items when S3 students performed at the assembly in Week 4. From my experience, students find the opportunity to perform in such a large choir (our choir is large by most standards, but this massed choir is exceptional) at the concert hall in front of a large audience is exhilarating.
What's Been Going On
Athletics Carnival
We had a lovely week of athletics events, culminating in the Friday Faction Athletics Carnival. It was a lovely day (until the last half an hour when it rained). Thank you to all the students who participated so well across the week and a special thanks to the faction leaders. I would also like to thank all the parents who have supported the events by attending as a cheer squad, helping with running the events, or manned or donated to the cake stall or sausage sizzle. A special thanks to the P&C and the parents, Miriam and Damian, for donating half their profits from the coffee van to the P&C. Of course, I must thank the staff and parents who helped set up the oval as well as the staff who took on roles at the carnival and by preparing the students for the events. Mrs Stanford is a legend, and we thank her for always running such a wonderful event so well.
P&C Art Award

Foyer Display - S3

S3
S3 celebrated NAIDOC week by learning more about indigenous culture through representation of artwork. We were mesmerised by the way that the AFL utilised the Sir Douglas Nicholls round to celebrate indigenous culture across Australia. We looked at the way the 18 AFL clubs incorporated the local groups and their artwork into the playing jumpers. The students of S3 then had a go at making their own football jumpers with indegenous art. Have a look at the amazing examples that they have come up with!

P & C News

Everyone was well fed at this year’s Faction Carnival, with the DUCKs sausage sizzle perfectly complementing the smorgasbord of treats at the cake stall. The BBQ team cooked over 350 hotdogs for the kids lunches, and 150 more for hungry parents and teachers. We’re fortunate to have a great parent community supporting and helping to run events such as the faction carnival and it’s always a pleasure meeting new parents and catch up with old friends on the BBQ.
There will be more DUCKs BBQs coming up in Term 4 so keep an eye out in the email and class rep groups, and please sign up to help - everyone will appreciate it!
And don’t forget the ever-popular DUCKs Campout on the Oval on 10 November – registrations will open soon.
